Company Looks to Change the Way Businesses in Nashville, Tenn., Recycle

One Nashville, Tenn., company is pushing others in the state to go zero waste. The Compost Company, the only fully permitted commercial composting facility in Middle Tennessee, is trying to change the way Nashville businesses collect and recycle materials.

The company is run on a farm located just outside Nashville in Ashland City and has helped the Nashville Farmers' Market compost nearly 80,000 pounds and make the switch to use utensils that can be broken down.

Once the waste is collected at the farmers’ market, it is taken to get processed, brought back in the form of soil and later sold as bagged compost at the market or used at area farms.

Once you're looking for compostable materials, you see them everywhere.

"Unofficially anything that was once alive is compostable. It can be treated instead of trashed," said Clay Ezell, Co-owner of The Compost Company.

The Compost Company is the only fully-permitted commercial composting facility in Middle Tennessee. Clay and Jeffery Ezell run the company, on a farm, located just outside Nashville in Ashland City. Together, they are changing the way Nashville businesses collect and recycle.
