City of Industry, Calif.  – Athens Services is pleased to announce that Employee Relations Director Evelyn Cornejo has been recognized as a 2021 Woman of Achievement by Business Life Magazine.

Cornejo was honored at an awards luncheon in Pasadena, CA, on November 8. She joined a distinguished panel of 24 honorees at the event.

Cornejo manages employee relations at Athens Services, the largest landfill avoidance and recycling company in Los Angeles County with 1,700 employees. She joined Athens as customer service manager in 2003. Her career spans 25 years in employee relations, customer service, call center management, project management, and coaching.

“I would like to thank Athens Services for empowering and supporting our female leaders,” Cornejo said in receiving the award. “Their support has helped me be the very best version of myself at home and work, no matter the challenges.”

She offered some advice for other women. “Be confident and once you find your voice, speak up! Never settle for the status quo and always be curious. Lastly, trust your intuition, but most importantly, trust yourself.”

This is the 32nd year that Business Life has recognized women of achievement in the San Fernando and San Gabriel Valleys. Honorees are nominated and selected based on their accomplishments and contributions to local communities. Athens VP of Government Affairs Elizabeth Ramirez nominated Cornejo for the award.

“In her personal life, at Athens Services, and in the community, Evelyn is a powerful advocate for helping others fulfill their potential,” Ramirez said. “She has mentored and helped several women grow into leadership positions at Athens. She is well deserving of this award, and we could not be prouder.”

Athens Services is a landfill avoidance company in Southern California. Family-owned and operated since 1957, Athens was founded on the simple principle of providing exceptional service by hiring and developing great people while fostering a safe, healthy, and sustainable environment; that’s The Athens Way.
