ARLINGTON, VA –  Today, the Detachable Container Association (DCA) partnered with the National Waste & Recycling Association (NWRA) Women’s Council to proudly announce the first annual Mickey & Ellen Flood Scholarship recipient, Melissa Gibson with Loadmaster. Gibson will receive a $7,500 scholarship that will assist her with continuing her education in the waste and recycling industry.

“Above all other pursuits, Mickey’s passion was taking care of people,” said Tammy Holtzman, chair of the Women’s Council Scholarship Committee and district manager at Waste Connections of Canada. “The DCA Board of Directors established a scholarship to memorialize his numerous contributions to our industry. It is named to honor Mickey as well as Ellen, a co-founder of the NWRA Women’s Council.”

This new scholarship program is aimed at benefitting NWRA member company employees and their dependents through the Women’s Council Scholarship. The Mickey & Ellen Flood Scholarship was established not only to honor the memory of Mickey’s numerous contributions to our industry but to also honor Ellen Flood as co-founder of the Women’s Council.

The scholarship is made possible by the generous donations of companies within the DCA—a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization.
