Pa. Man Sent to Prison After Hit-and-Run Accident with Sanitation Worker

Old Forge, Pa., resident Maxwell Materazzi-Hatala is being hauled off to prison after striking city Department of Public Works employee Steven Pierson with his car, fleeing the scene and later staging the location of the accident. Materazzi-Hatala will serve nine to 18 months in prison, seven years of probation and 1,000 hours of community service.
Pierson underwent surgery and therapy following the hit-and-run accident and is now walking.

Maxwell Materazzi-Hatala smashed the legs of city Department of Public Works employee Steven Pierson with his car, then fled and tried to cover up the crash.
On Monday, a judge sent the Old Forge man to prison for nine to 18 months followed by seven years of probation for his crimes. He must also pay $1,900 in fines and complete 1,000 hours of community service.
“It is very fortunate for you that Mr. Pierson survived,” Judge Margaret Bisignani Moyle said. “If he did not, you would be standing in a very different place.”
