The Solid Waste Management Department (SWMD) in San Antonio, Texas, recently unveiled a YouTube public service announcement that uses an amusing approach to alert San Antonians to the importance of reducing plastic bag waste. The video, which employs a schlocky 1950s B-movie motif, is part of the city's "Change is in the Bag" campaign, which takes a two-pronged approach to plastic bags by 1) encouraging the use of reusable shopping bags when possible and 2) illustrating the proper way to recycle plastic bags at local retailers, rather than placing them in SWMD recycling bins (where they become a contaminant).

The campaign comes at a time when many cities, including Texas neighbor Austin and most recently Los Angeles, have passed bans or other restrictions on plastic bags.
