The Garnett family of Niles, Ill., has turned garbage into gold after scavenging through their outthrows for a $10.5 million Illinois Lotto ticket. The ticket had been thrown out before the Garnetts had checked their numbers. But after hearing that the six winning numbers had been purchased in Niles and thanks to the Chicago-area's, nine-day garbage strike that left loads of trash piled at the curb, the Garnetts were able to wade through the refuse and recover the winning ticket.
