Staff Report
Milwaukee-based Veolia ES Solid Waste has acquired three waste collection firms that it will “tuck into” its operations in Pennsylvania, Alabama and Illinois. Veolia did not release the financial details of the transactions.
Veolia purchased JC Sanitation in McClellandtown, Pa.; Treesmith Inc. in Tuscaloosa, Ala.; and Suburban Disposal and Recycling in Warrensburg, Ill. “These acquisitions align with our strategy of purchasing assets of smaller, independent waste companies in order to expand Veolia’s existing operations within these integrated markets,” said Jim Long, president and CEO of Veolia ES Solid Waste, in a press release. “We are pleased to have all three of these businesses become a part of our company.”
JC Sanitation serves residential, commercial and roll-off customers, and Veolia will dispose of the waste collected from these accounts at its Chestnut Valley Landfill in McClellandtown. Suburban Disposal provides residential and commercial collection services; Veolia will take waste from Suburban’s customers to its Valley View Landfill in Decatur, Ill.
Treesmith’s assets include two roll-off trucks; waste collected by these vehicles will be brought to Veolia’s Eagle Bluff Landfill in Tuscaloosa.
Veolia also announced this week that the landfill gas-to-energy (LFGTE) facility at its landfill in Mauk, Ga., will increase its production capacity from 4 megawatts to 8 megawatts by the end of this year. The expanded facility will produce enough electricity to power approximately 4,700 residences, according to Veolia.
Energy Developments owns and operates the LFGTE facility, and Green Power EMC purchases the electricity produced by the site.
