Macon-Bibb County Receives Funds to Close Inert Landfill

Last month, Macon-Bibb County, Ga., officials worked to come up with the funds to close Walker Road landfill and an inert landfill. Now, the County Commission has passed a resolution that allows the county to use $652,500 from the Macon Water Authority to close its inert landfill.
The county’s next challenge will be to figure out how it will pay for closing Walker Road landfill, the county’s main landfill. This closure is expected to cost an estimated $10 million.
Both of these landfill closures are part of the Solid Waste Department’s long-term plan for waste and recycling services.

A Macon-Bibb County landfill that’s been forced to shut down because of federal regulations is getting $652,500 to close.
The County Commission passed a resolution Tuesday to use money provided through the Macon Water Authority to close the county’s inert landfill, which is where items such as concrete and bricks once were taken.
