Waste Management will sell assets in three markets in Kansas and Arkansas after the Department of Justice ordered the company to pull out of those markets before it is allowed to complete its merger with Deffenbaugh Disposal.
Houston's Waste Management, the largest company nationally that hauls, disposes of and recycles residential and commercial waste, announced the proposed merger in September for $405 million. The smaller Deffenbaugh Disposal is a private company based in Kansas City, and according to the Department of Justice, it brought in $180 in revenue in 2013, compared with Waste Management's $14 billion in 2014.
