Colorado Says No to Single-Use Plastic Bags and Polystyrene

A new bill aimed at reducing single-use plastics in Colorado has passed the house.

The state's House gave final approval to HB21-116 which would ban polystrene starting Jan. 1, 2024. A 10-cent fee for single-use plastic bags or a recycled paper bag would last until Jan. 1, 2024, at which time stores would only be allowed to provide recycled paper bags.

Farmers market as well as non-chain businesses with three or fewer locations in the state would be exempt.
