A new study in Nature Sustainability explains how wood powder can be transformed into a biodegradable solvent.
The resulting bioplastic can be used for bags and packaging. Researchers behind the project say the material has "high mechanical strength, stability when holding liquids, and UV-light resistance."
The process uses wastes from lumber mills to create the new material.
