Lehigh Valley Biofuel Entrepreneurs Charged in $50M Federal Scam

The owners of a Lehigh Valley company are accused of scamming taxpayers out of about $50 million in payments, subsidies and other benefits paid out for purportedly turning cooking oil into biofuel.

David Dunham, 35, of Bethlehem, and Ralph Tommaso, 46, of Warren Township, New Jersey, collected the used oil and processed it, but not in the quantities they reported or as a ready-to-use fuel as claimed, according to a federal prosecutor.

"Their claims vastly exceeded their actual production," states a news release from U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania Zane D. Memeger.
