Maryland Environmental Bills Target Pollution, Plastic and Pesticides

The state legislature will review several environmental bills this session, covering topics from greenhouse gases to the death of bees.

Lawmakers and advocates met at the Maryland Environmental Legislative Summit on Wednesday to discuss some of the legislation.

House Speaker Michael E. Busch spoke about the failure of government in Flint, Michigan, where lead contamination of drinking water has caused a public health crisis.

"That can happen anywhere ... if you're not proactive," he said.

Attorney General Brian Frost said at the summit that the state cannot "do more" with less oversight of environmental issues.
