Whether leachate is being treated onsite or at the publicly-owned treatment works (POTW), leachate management is a very significant cost for most engineered landfills. Tighter future limits and treatment of emerging contaminants such as per- and poly-fluorinated compounds (PFAS) can further increase costs. These treatment costs continue long after the closure period, and represent a significant liability to the landfill. This session will help you understand on-site treatment or pre-treatment considerations including technology selection, leachate quality/quantity, changes as the waste ages, and potential impacts of future discharge limits or contaminants of emerging concern.
