Rumpke Landfill Suit Against Colerain, Ohio, Zoning Gets Underway

It’s been eight years since Colerain Township told Rumpke its landfill could get no larger.

In 2006, the township rejected a bid by the operators of the Rumpke Sanitary Landfill to expand by about 300 acres to the east of its current landfill location. The area in question is adjacent to the eastern edge of the Struble Road landfill site and is bordered by Hughes Road, Buell Road and Interstate 275. The plan would effectively double the size of the landfill.

Rumpke didn’t take no for an answer, and filed suit in April 2007.
