Waste Management Recycle America (WMRA), a subsidiary of Houston-based Waste Management, has purchased three material recovery facilities (MRFs) in the mid-Atlantic region. WMRA acquired MRFs in Baltimore and Manassas, Va., from the Canusa Hershman Recycling Co, and also purchased one in Springfield, Va., that was jointly owned by Canusa Corp. and The Washington Post Co. Terms of the acquisitions were not disclosed.

The facilities will add approximately 30,000 tons per month of sorting capacity to WMRA, the company says. “The mid-Atlantic region is a highly competitive market, and we are intent on providing our customers in this region with the highest level of service, including robust recycling operations,” said Pat DeRueda, president of WMRA.
