The Missouri Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is accepting applications for fiscal-year 2010 “scrap tire material grants.” According to a department press release, the grants “promote the use of recycled scrap tires for playground cover or surfacing material for running tracks, walking trails or other surfacing projects.”

A total of roughly $250,000 is available for the grants. Public and private schools, parks, non-profit day-care centers, non-profit organizations and governmental organizations other than state agencies are eligible for the grants. Mailed applications must be postmarked by Feb. 3, 2010, and hand-delivered applications must arrive at the department by 5 p.m. on Feb. 3.
