Concentrated animal feeding operations have allegedly been perpetuating health and environmental issues in North Carolina.
Livestock operations from large scale hog farms have been polluting the water and air via open pits of hog feces and urine. The National Academy of Science stated that 95 premature deaths occur annually in Sampson County due to the air pollution from these farms.
The issues are caused due to "outdated waste management practices" on the part of hog farm operators.
