Ridwell Files Lawsuit Against Washington County for Preventing Its Recycling Service from Operating

Seattle-based recycling company Ridwell is suing Washington County, Oreg. for banning the business from operating.

The business works as a subscription-based service for hard-to-recycle items such as batteries, light bulbs and textiles. County code prohibits anyone to "collect waste for profit within unincorporated areas — that is, outside cities’ jurisdictions."

Meanwhile, a local association comprised of Oregon garbage hauling companies has proposed expanding the county’s recycling program to include the same hard-to-recycle items.
