Veolia Wins Lamp Recycling Contract in Maine

The National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) has awarded Veolia ES Technical Solutions with a contract for the collection and recycling of household mercury-added lamps in Maine.

Veolia ES Technical Solutions is the hazardous waste division of Veolia Environmental Services North America.

NEMA issued a request for proposal for the services after Maine passed legislation requiring manufacturers of mercury-added lamps to create a recycling program for the products. “We are pleased to have been selected to establish an efficient, effective system for the recycling of mercury-added lamps that fit within the parameters of NEMA’s request,” said John McShane, branch manager of Veolia ES Technical Solutions, in a press release.

Under the terms of the contact, Veolia ES Technical Solutions is required to regularly pick up mercury-added lamps from up to 500 municipal and retail sites in the state and to produce annual reports detailing the total number of lamps recycled and other program data.
