NSWMA Forms Alabama Chapter
The National Solid Wastes Management Association has formed a chapter in Alabama, its first new chapter in 13 years.
The Washington-based association said in a news release that Gentry Shows has been elected chairman of the new Alabama chapter. He is region and municipal marketing and government affairs manager for Advanced Disposal Services Inc. in Birmingham.
In addition to Advanced Disposal, the other initial member companies of the Alabama chapter are Alabama Dumpster Services, Arrow Disposal, Eddie Dick Associates, Green Group Holdings, Matter Management, People’s United Equipment Finance, Pine Hollow Inc., Republic Services Inc., Waste Connections Inc., Waste Management Inc. and WCA Waste Corp.
"I am extremely pleased and excited that the leaders of the solid waste industry came together and elected to form an Alabama chapter of the NSWMA,” Shows said. “We have many challenges ahead in Alabama. With the efforts of the outstanding group that we have assembled, along with the future members, I am confident that we will reach our goals.”
Sharon Kneiss, NSWMA president and CEO, added, “With the importance of the services the waste and recycling industry provides to every American, it is especially important that the industry has a strong voice at the local and state levels. I congratulate the Alabama chapter on its creation and look forward to working with them.”
It is the first new chapter for the NSWMA since the New York City chapter was formed in 2000. The NSWMA currently has 25 chapters in 26 states and the District of Columbia.
