The National Waste & Recycling Association (NW&RA) has formed a new chapter in Colorado.

The Colorado chapter is the third new chapter to join the Washington-based NW&RA in less than 16 months, the association said in a news release. Chapters also were formed recently in Alabama and Northern New England (representing companies in Maine and New Hampshire).

NW&RA currently has 27 chapters operating in 29 states, the District of Columbia and New York City.

NW&RA members operating in Colorado met in Denver last month and voted to form the chapter to address key local issues together and provide opportunities for education. The group plans to meet again in November to formally elect its leadership and establish direction for the new chapter.

Members cited the need to work together to ensure the industry can continue to run environmentally sound businesses free without unnecessarily burdensome regulations.

“It is important that the industry has a strong voice at the local and state levels, so we are pleased to welcome this new chapter and will work to ensure we provide them with strong support,” said Sharon Kneiss, NW&RA president and CEO. “I congratulate the members of the Colorado Chapter on its creation and look forward to working with them. I am optimistic that we will see additional new chapters as we move to ensure the industry is well represented throughout the country.”
